The Jets & Giants squared off not far from the Meadowlands last night. The Jets looked confident as they were eager to begin their season 2-0. However, the Giants were certainly determined not to start the season with a second straight loss and force the coaching staff to answer some questions.
The Jets struck first as Andrew Teigman (6th grade Moriah) stole the puck and nailed the top corner for a 1-0 lead after 1. The giants struck back in the 2nd period to take the lead 2-1 on goals by Tzvi Bessler (7th grade Yavneh) and Jason Levine (8th grade Moriah). The buzzer sounded signaling the end of the 2nd period, and the Giants were clinging to a 2-1 lead.
Matt Reinhart (6th grade Yavneh) did his best to keep the Jets close but with 7 minutes left Rafi Wind (8th grade Noam) won a face-off back to Eitan Rolnick (8th grade Moriah) who ripped a shot top corner for the 3-1 lead. While the Giants seemed to think that the lead was safe, the Jets did not agree. With 6:15 Ami Rosenfeld (7th grade Moriah) scored to cut the lead to one and with a mere 2:40 remaining on the clock Ami Rosenfeld scored yet again to tie the game at 3. With the intensity on a playoff level, each team was giving its all to take the lead. With 1:12 left Jason Levine made beautiful moves to deceive the Jet defenders and tucked in the winner as the Giants defeated the Jets by the score of 4-3.
