The Dolphins and Eagles met up as each team was playing their second game of the young season. The Dolphins, coming off an impressive 3-1 victory over the Giants, were looking to go 2-0, while the Eagles, led by assistant coach Akiva Levy, were hoping to notch their first “W” of the year.
The 1st period featured just one goal as Daniel Raykher (8th grade Yavneh) scored on a nice pass from Shua Beilin (6th grade Moriah) giving the Dolphins a 1-0 lead. The period ended with just that one goal scored, and the game looked like it would be a low scoring affair.
However, the Dolphins jumped all over the Eagles early in the 2nd as they scored three straight goals. Akiva Gottlieb (8th Yavneh) scored twice and Isaac Altman (8th grade Noam) put one in, with Yair Knoller (6th grade Noam) assisting on two of the goals. With the Dolphins holding a rather comfortable 4-0 lead, the Eagles needed a spark to get them going, to try and not let the game fall out of reach. Finally, with 12 seconds left in the period, Jono Wietschner (8th grade Yavneh) scored to cut the lead to 4-1.
The 3rd period started and the Eagles were desperately trying to cut the lead down to two, but Akiva Gottlieb netted his 3rd of the game halfway through the 3rd. Akiva’s goal completed the first hat trick of the season and gave his team a 3 goal lead. However, the Eagles would not go down without a fight. Trying to mount a comeback, Jessie Arbisfeld (7th grade Moriah) ripped a shot off of the post that Jacob Bach (7th grade Yavneh) tapped home to cut the lead to 5-2, but all hopes of a comeback were dashed when just 20 seconds later Isaac Altman scored his 2nd of the night to end the scoring and give the Dolphins a 6-2 victory.
